Gifts and Talents

In the Parable of the Talents Jesus tells us that God gave each and every one of us gifts and talents to use for the Glory of God and our purpose in this life is to use those gifts and talents in such a way that we gain more gifts and talents and so show that the ‘Glory of God is Man fully alive’ (as St Irenaeus put it).

St Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit gives us gifts at our Baptism and Confirmation so that we may bear fruit as Christians and so give Glory to God.

Using our gifts and talents for the Glory of God is called Evangelisation! To complete St Irenaeus’ quotation, ‘The Glory of God is Man fully alive, but the life of Man is the vision of God’. When we use our gifts and talents to evangelise we bring the vision of God to fruition in the world, show the nobility of human life and bring people to Christ’s Church.

The greatest way we can use our gifts and talents is by bringing life to our parish in a great variety of ways including reading Sacred Scripture and distributing Holy Communion at Mass, catechising children, young people and adults, and helping with the every day running of the parish through finance, health and safety and handiwork!

For this reason we are looking for more people to help in these ways!

On this page are two documents to download. The first is asking how you currently use your gifts and talents in the parish and how you would like to use your gifts and talents in the parish. Please fill this in ( Word or Pdf ) and either e-mail it to customhouse@brcdt.org or print it off and bring it to the parish office. Remember to include your name and contact details!

The second document has three questions we would like your honest answers to. You can print this off and return it anonymously in order to aid your honesty!

Thank you for your help with this project and we look forward to seeing the Glory of God shine from the Parish of the Royal Docks!

Our Lady of Walsingham; Pray for us!
